Professional Development Plan Part 1V
My plans for Practicum 1 and 11
Goals
I want the student that I teach to understand that learning is not something that is done to them but something that they do, and for them to make a shift in their understanding of what learning means to them, and become self-directed learners, through goal setting and reflective practice.
I also want to engage my students in a collaborative inquiry based learning opportunity where the students can be creative, active, connected and part of a learning community and network.
I want to use technology to support learning that is underpinned by the development and acquisition of digital literacies that support life-long learning.
I want to further develop my own knowledge and use of Web 2.0 tools that are suitable and applicable to support learning, as well as showcase learning, the learning process and reflection of learning. I would also like to develop student’s knowledge of Web 2.0 so that they have a repertoire of programmes that they feel confident about using and which supports their learning.
The use of open source tools has to be carefully chosen and must support freedom to explore and create, but at the same time must be safe.
I want to focus on developing quality writing and develop metacognition, so that the students are able to succinctly and accurately articulate their thinking and reflect on their learning.
I want to develop my own professional learning network further and develop a professional reading reference resource to support my own professional development in the area of e-portfolios, collaborative Inquiry based learning, and reflective practice which supports life-long learning.

Practicum 2
I will use blogs to establish e-portfolios for each child in my class. The students will be able to show their learning goals, the process of their learning and their reflective practice on their portfolios. The purpose of the e-portfolios will also be to establish a culture of learning where the students realize that learning can happen at anytime and in another place other than in a formal learning situation. Through the development of their blogs, I hope to give the students and understanding of ‘lifewide’ learning where the students realize that learning is something that happens throughout one's life and through different stages of life.
I will use the comment facility to provide feedback and feedforward, guiding next learning steps. I want the students to be able to identify their next learning steps and to take control of their own learning.
I will also use this comment facility to encourage feedback from other stake holders -peers, family members and participants involved in the collaborative learning situation.
I will make use of open source Web 2.0 tools for the development of the e-portfolios. I will also expose students to a number of Web 2.0 tools that they can use to show their learning.
I would like to get the parents involved and have some teaching sessions where children and parents can work together at school developing this portfolio.
